Bike USA – obviously with the best packing accessories from Klobbabags
Loris already established himself as quite an extraordinary young man when he solo sailed up through the Chilean Fjords from Puerto Eden to Puerto Montt aged only 18 ! He has lived and worked at sea ever since but just for now has turned his back on it to head over land to bike USA.
His latest venture aged 21 – he bought a bike on Ebay and is cycling the 2900 miles from San Francisco to New Orleans.
You meet fabulous people when you travel alone. From Georgia, Andrew, Anna, Richard, Geoffrey, Emily, Lawrence, Harold, Johnny, John, Alex, Louise, Will, Andrea, Lorna and Paolo Nutini – Well, he didn’t actually meet Paolo but it turns out just liking his music can save your day and give you beer and a bed !
To bike USA is no mean feat – he has struggled up mountains with 24% gradients and sped down the other side. He averages 50 miles per day and now rides at night to get out of the blistering desert sun. He carries 12lt of water with him, a few changes of clothes, a decent camera and not much else. When he gets to any town you can often find him wherever you find free Wifi ! (Walmart or McDonald’s)

He’s caught halibut under the Golden Gate Bridge, ridden out with cowboys in Nevada, driven vintage Buicks through the desert, been gold panning, dined with 21 members of a Mormon family, accidentally featured in a beer advert, had a Eureka moment, saved a damsel in distress, fought off bad folk, sought out good folk, swam in lakes and rivers, slept under the stars, in haunted houses, under bushes, in ghost towns, in lovely clean beds with plumped up pillows and he’s grown a moustache !
Loris is a shining example of positivity and self-driven determination. He is unphased by what so many find fearful and he is really humble – #SayYesMore is one of his mantras – and he has subsequently joined @TheYesTribe
You can keep up with this fabulously British and totally absurd adventure @loris_on_a_bike on Instagram
